Principle 02
Truth creates freedom.
Every self-deception, however comfortable, is a cell. Reality faced is reality that can be worked with.
We lie to ourselves for understandable reasons — to protect an identity, to avoid grief, to keep the peace. But every avoided truth requires maintenance: energy spent not-knowing what some part of us already knows. Over years this maintenance becomes exhausting, and we mistake the exhaustion for life itself.
Telling the truth — first inwardly, then where appropriate outwardly — releases that energy. It rarely feels good immediately; it feels clean. Freedom does not come from circumstances improving but from the end of the inner split between what we know and what we admit.
In practice
- Name things accurately in your own mind, even when you tell no one.
- Notice where you say 'I'm fine' as a reflex, and check whether it is true.
- Prefer an uncomfortable truth to a comfortable ambiguity in decisions.
What do I already know that I am pretending not to know?
