Principle 08
Love expresses power.
Love is not the opposite of power but its most complete expression — power that no longer needs to defend itself.
Where power is fragmented, love and strength seem opposed: to love is to be vulnerable, to be strong is to be guarded. So people oscillate — hard in the world, starved at home, or endlessly giving and quietly resentful.
Integrated power dissolves the opposition. Real love — attentive, honest, boundaried, generous — requires enormous strength: the strength to be seen, to stay present in conflict, to give without keeping accounts, to let others be free. Sentimentality is weak. Love is not.
In practice
- Treat presence and honesty as the primary gifts you offer others.
- Love with boundaries; care without self-erasure.
- In conflict, aim for contact rather than victory.
Where do I withhold love to feel strong — or erase myself to feel loving?
